Making money hand over fist
In the olde days when the making of coins was done by hand, the phrase came when you hit the stamp on to the boss, the stamp held the impression of one side of the coin whilst the boss held the impression of the other side, hence making money hand over fist.
Hand over fist was a natical term when you haulled in a rope hand over fist
Pass the buck
the Buck refers to a bucket, years ago urine was used as bleaching agent and the women washers of the day would use the urine bucket first to bleach the clothes this was usd by the most senor women first then passed down the line to the younger women to do the actual dipping hence pass the buck.
In fact tweed jackets used to be dipped in urine to fix the colour, lovely smell when they got wet - thankfully not used now.
